Statement of Faith

What We Believe

We are a Christ-centered, Pentecostal church committed to the authority of Scripture and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. We affirm the historic Christian faith and the Full Gospel message that Jesus Christ is Saviour, Healer, Spirit Baptizer, and Soon Coming King.

God

We believe in one God who exists eternally as three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is loving, holy, just, and worthy of all worship.

The Bible

We believe the Bible is God's inspired revelation, completely trustworthy, and the final authority for Christian faith and living.

Salvation

We believe salvation is available to all through the life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ. By God's grace, those who repent and place their faith in Christ receive forgiveness, new life, reconciliation with God, and the gift of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit empowers believers for holy living, ministry, and witness. Spirit baptism is available to all believers and enables the church to continue Christ's mission in the world.

The Church

We believe the Church is the body of Christ, called to worship, prayer, discipleship, fellowship, and sharing the Gospel. We practice water baptism by immersion and celebrate the Lord's Supper as expressions of our faith in Christ.

Spiritual Gifts

We believe God continues to give spiritual gifts to His people for ministry, service, and the strengthening of the Church. We affirm the ministry and leadership gifts God gives to both men and women.

Our Hope

We believe Jesus Christ will return again, bring God's restoration to completion, judge with justice and righteousness, and establish His eternal kingdom. Believers look forward to eternal life in God's presence.

Our Values and Practices

  • We uphold marriage as a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman.
  • We value strong, healthy families and believe every home should be a place of love, care, and safety.
  • We encourage reconciliation and healing in relationships whenever possible.
  • We affirm God’s creation of humanity as male and female and seek to live according to biblical teaching regarding identity and sexuality.
  • We practice generous, faithful giving as an act of worship and stewardship.

“Jesus Christ is our Saviour, Healer, Spirit Baptizer, and Soon Coming King. As Spirit Baptizer, Jesus empowers believers through the Holy Spirit to live for Him, serve others, and share the good news of God’s kingdom.”

This comes from the New Testament, where John the Baptist said that while he baptized people with water, Jesus would baptize people with the Holy Spirit. The PAOC statement teaches that after Jesus ascended to heaven, He poured out the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost and continues to do so for believers today.

In practical terms, Pentecostals distinguish between:

  • Salvation: When a person puts their faith in Christ and receives new life through the Holy Spirit.
  • Spirit Baptism: A subsequent empowering experience in which Jesus fills believers with the Holy Spirit for witness, ministry, and service.

The PAOC teaches that Spirit baptism:

  • Is available to all believers.
  • Empowers Christians to share the Gospel and serve effectively.
  • Is commonly accompanied by speaking in tongues as its initial sign.
